The Seventh Netherlands-Taiwan Energy and Innovation Cooperation Meeting took place Dec. 14 in both physical and video conference form, with both sides reviewing progress and discussing the outlook of collaborative projects.
Organized by the Bureau of Energy under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Netherlands Office Taipei, the one-day event focused discussions on offshore wind energy and floating photovoltaic systems, hydrogen energy-related infrastructure and applications, in addition to the projected visit of a Taiwan delegation to the EU member state in 2023.
The event brought together businesses from both sides, research entities such as Hsinchu County-based Industrial Technology Research Institute and the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, as well as the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.
During his opening remarks, Deputy MOEA Minister Chen Chern-chyi said Taiwan and the Netherlands are both keen on developing low carbon energy sources and innovative technologies. This event was a great opportunity for the countries to explore further expansion of their partnership, he added.
In response, Dutch energy envoy Frederik Wisselink said through video link that tremendous progress has been achieved through mutual cooperation, citing a milestone training program in effect since 2019 to cultivate Taiwan offshore wind energy professionals.
Echoing Wisselink’s remarks, NOT Rep. Guiod Tielman said in a changing global economic landscape it was beneficial for the two partners to enhance cooperation and learn from each other. The Netherlands looks forward to working with Taiwan to fulfill their respective energy transformation goals, he added. (SFC-E)
